WHAT DO YOU DO THE MOMENT YOUR DOCTOR USES A WORD YOU DON'T KNOW?

What do you do the moment your doctor uses a word you don't know?

A clinician uses a word like , sub-chorionic haemorrhage, , hydrosalpinx, septate uterus, PMOS, or , and you hear it, nod, and only afterwards realise you did not actually know what it meant.

This happens to everyone, including doctors when they visit other doctors. It is not a failure. Missing a word means you miss part of the plan.

WHICH SENTENCES ACTUALLY WORK WHEN YOU NEED A DOCTOR TO EXPLAIN SOMETHING?

Which sentences actually work when you need a doctor to explain something?

    • 'Can you explain what that means, in a way I can take home?' • 'I'd like to write that down, can you spell it for me?' • 'Can I have that in writing so I can look it up later?'

None of these are rude. Most clinicians genuinely prefer patients who do this, it means the plan will actually be followed.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO AFTER THE APPOINTMENT IF YOU'RE STILL UNCLEAR?

What should you do after the appointment if you're still unclear?

Use the Symptom Glossary in this app to look up terms you heard. If anything still doesn't make sense, email or write to the practice asking for clarification, you are allowed to do this.

Bring the written plan to your next appointment. This is how you build continuity instead of starting from zero each time.

How did this land with you?
